FALL 2022

The Earth is a silent, suffering entity, echoing the environmental challenges in Los Angeles. To bring this silent narrative to the forefront, we've conceptualized an interpretative landscape that not only reflects on LA's environmental footprint but also serves as a call to action. This landscape is punctuated with installations that abstractly represent the city's pivotal resources of water, electricity, and greenhouse gases. By immersing visitors in this environment the project aims to inspire a shift in perspective, highlighting the urgency of addressing ecological issues.

SITE STRATEGY

By developing unique systems for gravel and shallow flood diagrams, we've created a magnetic field at the site's outer path and boundaries. This magnetic field serves as a canvas for placing varied geometric shapes, guiding the positioning of our interpretative installations that symbolize Los Angeles' most consumed resources: water, electricity, and greenhouse gases.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN

Water is visualized through succulent gardens and gravel arranged in ripple patterns, symbolizing its flow and scarcity. Electricity is brought to life with solar panels and machinery that underscore the city's energy dynamics. Greenhouse gases are depicted through terrariums and balloons, visual metaphors for the toxic gases contributing to global warming. The design intentionally disorients visitors on the ground floor, reflecting the complex pathways of resource consumption and environmental impact.

BUILDING DESIGN

The building component of the project complements the landscape through its architectural form, combining cylinders and squares to echo the installation's geometric language. It connects to the main bridge, marking either the beginning or the endpoint of the visitor's journey through the site.
